Shared note

In the Township of Bayham, 27th of September, 1844. Elizabeth Anderson, wife of Jeremiah, aged 74 years. The subject of this memoir was born in the State of Massachusetts. At the conclusion of the Revolutionary War, she removed with her parents to reside in New Brunswick. She first made a profession of religion under the people called the New Lights, followers of Rev. George Whitfield. At the age of 20, she was married to Mr. Jeremiah Anderson, then removed to Charlotteville in the Talbot District, Upper Canada, where she joined the Methodist Church under the ministry of Rev. Daniel Freeman in the in year 1807. Since that period she has been a steady and consistent member of our Church, respected and beloved by all who knew her . . . Her house was a house for the preachers of the Gospel for many years. They preached in her house for seventeen years before there was a chapel in that part of the township where shelived. Last May while attending a Quarterly meeting of the Malahide chapel,. . . she was taken ill and had to be conveyed home. On the first of August she was taken worse and confined to her bed. During her affliction she was perfectly resigned to the will of God, not a murmur escaped from her lips. She called her husband ... her daughter-in-law, and her weeping son Jesse to her bedside and bade farewell to her children and grandchildren. . . . .etc.The Christian Guardian; April 27, 1857Jeremiah Anderson of Bayham. Father Anderson was born at Athens in the State of New York in 1764 and died in Bayham and. was consequently 92 years and 9 months old. At the early age of 14 he entered his Britannic Majesty’s service, and during the Revolutionary War served on board the Commodore’s ship; his late Majesty King William serving on board the same ship as midshipman. In 180? in New Brunswick he entered the service of the King of Kings, and kept his armour on till, in a good old age he received his discharge with retiring pension of fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore. ... Shortly after his conversion he removed to Canada West, and settled in theTownship of Charlotteville. In 1807 he removed to Bayham, where he finished his course with Joy.

Elizabeth also went with her parents to New Brunswick, where she married Jeremiah at the age of 20 years. Jeremiah and Elizabeth were baptised as adults by Rev. Richard S. Clarke on 5 Aug 1792 2. The couple settled on a 50 acre Crown Grant at Gagetown, NB.6 They were subsequently converted to the Methodist faith under the New Lights Mission, followers of Rev. George Whitefield.
